2021 West Michigan Championship U1200

Date:
Site: Grand Rapids Chess Center
Score: 2/5

This was my second contiguous event, and the first such to span multiple days; rounds 1–3 were played Saturday the 16th, and rounds 4–5 were played Sunday the 17th. It is also the first event in which I managed more than one win. There were three sections: U1200, U1700, and Championship.

With a time control of G/90;d5, and having previously played games up to G/55 which ended in a time scramble, I was fully expecting to have games last up to three hours and, consequently, for the tournament to consume effectively the entire weekend. In the end, however, each of my games consumed only about half the allotted time, so I was left with significant blocks of free time between rounds. It's possible I could have made better use of time during the games to produce better results, but I never felt particularly like I was making rushed decisions.
