White, 479 (Q) vs. Gabriel Wilder, 740

Date:
Event: GRCC 2021 Holiday Action
Time Control: G/25;d3
Result: 1-0 (win)

This was the third game of the 2021 Holiday Action, and my only win of the event. Unsurprisingly, it was easily my best-played game, with no blunders and only one mistake: 28. Qg6?, which gave up a forced mate-in-6 (realistically, I'm a ways away from being able to spot a sequence that long) but did not significantly impact my chances of winning.

The key move was Black's 17...Nb4??, losing a bishop. However, the moment which most stands out in my memory was my invasion with 22. Rd7. This was an unusually aggressive move for me, and I spent several minutes trying to work out whether or not it could backfire. In the end, I went with it on the strength of intuition, believing it would pay off; and, ultimately, it did.
